Sacramento woman arrested on multiple charges after 100 mph pursuit that began in Placerville

The Thursday morning commute is still slow going in Folsom after a large section of Highway 50 was shut down due to police activity that began long before sunrise.

All lanes of Highway 50 between East Bidwell Street and Prairie City Road were diverted into Folsom at the East Bidwell Street after a pursuit came to an end that was followed by an arrest and a lengthy investigation.

According to the initial report, the pursuit began in Placerville and ended on Westbound 50 beyond the East Bidwell on ramp. 

Officers shut down the freeway and deployed spike strips to disable the suspects vehicle and apprehended them at gunpoint.

Akika Kevonae Parker, 34, of Sacramento was apprehended at the scene. Parker was first pulled over in a traffic stop by Placerville Police at 2:33 a.m. and sped off after reportedly refusing to step out of the vehicle, she led officers on westbound US50 

Traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, she was intercepted by Folsom Police when her vehicle became disabled by a spike strip that was deployed near the East Bidwell exit.

Parker was released to the Placerville Police Department and was later booked into the El Dorado County Jail. She faces multiple charges, including evading police, assault with a deadly weapon, evading a police, possession or a concealed and resisting arrest.

The freeway reopened following the arrest, however the traffic back snarled the morning commute for many.
