With fire season just around the corner, the Folsom Fire Department has been busy through the winter months recruiting and training firefighters to join their missions to protect and serve the residents in the city of Folsom far into the future.
Last week, the department announced that six recruits have completed all of the required programs from its Academy 23-1 program and have joined the department as of this week. The lateral firefighters will now work as active Folsom firefighters under the supervision of an assigned Field Training Officer.
“We are excited to have experienced firefighters join our team and opt to work in the City of Folsom,” Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano.
The newest members of the department include Matt Brooksher, Joshua Christian, Aaron Jarone, Tim MacIsacc, Kyle Post and Scott Vasquez. Cusano took the time to brief FolsomTimes.com a little about Folsom’s newest additions to introduce them to the community they serve and share a bit about their careers.
Brooksher is a Firefighter/Paramedic from Stockton. His close family includes his mother Tammie, his father Jeff, his brother Andrew, and his niece Olivia. Matt has been a Fireman for over 4 years, with previous work in construction, the Emergency Room and coaching CrossFit. When he is not helping family or friends with home projects, he is an avid duck hunter and fisherman, enjoys paddle boarding, wakeboarding, hiking, and working out with friends.
Christian was born in Sacramento and currently lives in Loomis with his lovely wife Heather and their 5 kids Jacob, Mikayla, Ty, Makenzie and Madeleine. After graduating high school in 1999, Josh knew he wanted to pursue a career in EMS and Firefighting, so he obtained his EMT and began taking Fire Science courses at the local colleges. Shortly after, he got his first job in fire with the US Forest Service on a hand crew out of Georgetown.
After attaining his Firefighter 1 through Sierra College and graduating paramedic school with NCTI, Christian accepted a position with BiCounty Ambulance where he worked as a 911 Paramedic. For the last few years, Josh has worked as a Paramedic Firefighter for South Placer Fire District before coming to Folsom Fire Department. In his spare time Josh enjoys getting outside with his family; whether that’s camping, going to the beach, enjoying the peacefulness of the mountains, or kayaking on the water.
Jarone was born in Roseville and spent his childhood in the Sacramento region. He began his career in the fire service in 2010 when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In his eight years of military service, he served as a firefighter, fire engineer, and fire captain at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. Aaron was honorably discharged in 2018 to raise his beloved daughters. He returned to Sacramento to be closer to family and went back to school, earning his paramedic license. Aaron worked as a paramedic firefighter in El Dorado County prior to joining the Folsom Fire Department.
MacIssac was born in Mission Hills. He is the father of three children Graham, Parker, and Silas. Attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.S. Natural Resource Management. Employed with the USFS then BLM in Boise, Idaho. Worked for the City of Berkeley as a firefighter. He enjoys the outdoors and spending time with my kids camping and swimming.
Post was born in San Diego, Ca. Attended EMTSA College Paramedic School. Prior Employment was with Viejas Fire Department. Married to his wife Tia. Enjoys Bass Fishing, Biking, Camping, and Guitar.
Vasquez comes to the Folsom Fire Department from Ebbetts Pass Fire after 12 years. Growing up in Amador County where he learned how to love the outdoors . Scott now lives in Gold River with his Fiancé Allison and seven-year-old Sasha who he now shares his love for snow skiing with. Scott also likes to challenge himself and run high altitude endurance races in Tahoe and Utah.
