Firefighters from Folsom, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and CalFire worked together in the early morning hours Sunday to extinguish a vegetation fire that broke out near Black Miner’s Bar State Park off Lake Natoma.

Upon the initial call shortly after 12 a.m. Engines from Folsom’s station 36 were dispatched to what was called in as an unknown type of fire by a 911 caller. Folsom Police and State Park Officers arrived first and reported a large grass fire. Additional units were immediately dispatched.

Crews arrived to find a 1⁄2 acre wildland fire with a moderate rate of spread near the swimming and beach area.

The fire was a mix of grass, brush, and trees. Additional engines arrived and attacked the fire with hose lines. The fire was contained within 30 minutes. Approximately 2 acres burned.

According to the Folsom Fire Departmwnt, crew from Cal Fire arrived to assist. Crews remained on scene for 6 hours for extensive mop up of the burning vegetation in the fire perimeter.


No injuries were reported. The cause is currently under investigation.
