Incident one of two serious vehicle accidents locally Sunday

Two different drivers were transported to an area hospital Sunday afternoon after their vehicles were struck by a large tree that fell across both lanes of a roadway near Granite Bay.

At approximately 3:26 p.m. fire and medic units were dispatched to Auburn Folsom Road for a reported large tree that had fallen across both lanes of the roadway, striking two different vehicles. The massive tree completely blocked the roadway in both directions, just south of Joe Rodgers Road which is just north of the intersection of Douglas Boulevard. 

South Placer Fire and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. One driver had to be extricated from their vehicle while emergency crews simultaneously worked to remove sections of the tree off of the crushed roof of the vehicle.

Both drivers were reportedly transported to area hospitals with what was described by CHP as moderate injuries. The large tree appeared to come down due to rain soaked ground. The roadway was closed in both directions up until approximately 5:30 p.m.as the incident was cleared. The accident was the second serious accident on wet roadways in the area Sunday. At 11:28 a.m. Sunday, multiple fire units and two medic units responded to a collision on Iron Point Road near Ingersoll Way in Folsom. Units were on scene for nearly two hours. The condition The condition of those transported were unknown.
