Folsom Police have released dashcam footage of an intense pursuit that took place Saturday night that resulted with a hit-and-run suspect that is reportedly a transient, driving a stolen vehicle that struck multiple vehicles, including Folsom Police units as he was attempting to evade officers.
According to a report from the Folsom Police Department, Saturday evening, just before 9 p.m., officers stopped an SUV pulling a trailer that matched the description of a hit-and-run vehicle 15 minutes earlier. During the traffic stop, the driver reportedly gave officers a false name and then proceeded to speed off, leading officers on a pursuit and lasted just under a mile in distance.
As the suspect turned through the intersection of Wales Street and Natoma Street, he turned wide and struck an uninvolved driver at the intersection. The suspect then drove head-on into a police car that had stopped in the oncoming lanes as part of the pursuit. The suspect then accelerated, striking another police car before veering off the roadway and striking a light pole before his vehicle was disabled.
Once his vehicle was disabled, the suspect continued to flee on foot, leading officers on a short foot chase before physically fighting with them as they took him into custody. During the fight, the suspect reportedly attempted to take an officer’s Taser. Both the suspect and one of the officers suffered minor injuries.
Jimmy Buckley, 50, who is a known transient, according to police was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on multiple felony charges. Charges include possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing a police officer, vehicle theft, felony hit and run causing injury, evading police in a vehicle, evading police in a vehicle with wanton disregard for safety, evading police in a vehicle while driving the wrong way on a roadway, giving a false name, and the felony arrest warrant.
Buckley was reportedly on probation and had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for vehicle theft. He remains in custody at the Sacramento County Jail. Jail records say bail is set at $500,000.00 for the most recent charges and indicates he is ineligible for bail on the previous charge and outstanding warrant. He is now facing seven felony charges and three misdemeanors combined from Saturday’s incident and his previous warrant.
